Philip Clayton

Philip Clayton is a freelance writer with a life-long love of gardens and plants who studied at RHS Garden Wisley and has a BSc in horticulture from Wye College. A plantsman with exceptional knowledge and enthusiasm for nurseries and plants, he writes about both regularly. Formerly deputy editor of RHS members’ magazine The Garden, Phil’s books include A Plant for Every Day of the Year, Grow Roses and Parched: 50 plants that thrive and survive in a dry garden, which was published by RBG Kew in 2024. He’s a member of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Herbaceous Plant Expert Group and also gardens professionally at The Manor in Hemingford Grey, Cambridgeshire.
